About the Pindari Glacier Trek

The Pindari Glacier Trek is one of the most beautiful and accessible glacier treks in Uttarakhand, taking you deep into the magnificent Kumaon Himalayas.

Known as the “Soul of Kumaon,” the Pindari Glacier lies in the Kumaon Himalayas and is surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain landscapes of Uttarakhand. The trek follows the beautiful Pindar River through remote Himalayan villages, dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and peaceful alpine landscapes.

Our journey begins at Khati Village, one of the last inhabited villages on the trail. From here, we gradually walk deeper into the wilderness, passing through Dwali and Phurkiya before reaching the spectacular Pindari Glacier Zero Point.

The trail is a beautiful combination of adventure and nature. Every day brings something new—traditional Kumaoni villages, dense forests, roaring rivers, wooden bridges, waterfalls, and spectacular Himalayan views.

And then comes the final destination.

Standing at Pindari Glacier Zero Point, surrounded by enormous mountains and the vast frozen landscape of the glacier, is a moment that makes every step of the journey worthwhile.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival Khati Village

Altitude: ~7,000–7,500 ft
Drive: ~190–200 km from Kathgodam | 8–10 hrs
Day Theme: Entering the remote heart of Kumaon.

Our journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathgodam towards the beautiful Kumaon Himalayas.

The road winds through mountain valleys, forests, and traditional Kumaoni villages before we reach the roadhead and continue towards Khati Village, one of the last inhabited villages on the Pindari Glacier trail.

Khati offers the perfect beginning to our adventure. Surrounded by mountains and traditional wooden houses, the village gives us our first taste of the peaceful Himalayan lifestyle.

Khati Village to Dwali

Trek: ~11 km | 5–6 hrs
Altitude: ~8,500–9,000 ft
Day Theme: Following the river into the wilderness.

After breakfast, we begin our trek from Khati Village.

The trail gradually descends and follows the beautiful Pindar River, taking us deeper into the Kumaon Himalayas. The sound of flowing water accompanies us throughout the journey.

• Begin the trek through beautiful Himalayan forests
• Walk beside the Pindar River
• Cross mountain bridges and forest trails
• Witness waterfalls and dramatic valley landscapes
• Gradually gain altitude towards Dwali
• Reach Dwali campsite by evening

Dwali is located at the confluence of the Pindar and Kafni rivers, making it a beautiful and peaceful stop along the trail.

As evening arrives, relax beside the river and enjoy the silence of the mountains.

Dwali to Phurkiya

Trek: ~5 km | 3–4 hrs
Altitude: ~10,500 ft
Day Theme: Shorter steps, bigger mountains.

Today is a shorter trekking day, allowing us to gradually acclimatise before the challenging journey towards the glacier.

After breakfast, we continue along the beautiful trail towards Phurkiya.

The landscape slowly changes as we gain altitude. The dense forests begin to open up, revealing wider mountain views and the rugged beauty of the high Himalayas.

Phurkiya to Pindari Glacier Zero Point-Dwali

Trek: ~16 km | 7–9 hrs
Altitude: ~12,300 ft
Day Theme: Standing before the frozen heart of the Himalayas.

Today is the most exciting and challenging day of the trek.

We start early in the morning from Phurkiya and begin our journey towards Pindari Glacier Zero Point.

As we move higher, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. The trail leads through the high-altitude Himalayan wilderness, with massive mountains rising around us.

Dwali to Khati Village

Trek: ~11 km | 4–5 hrs
Altitude: ~8,500 ft → ~7,000–7,500 ft
Day Theme: Descending from the glacier, carrying its memories.

After breakfast, we begin our return journey towards Khati Village.

The trail follows the beautiful Pindar River and takes us back through the forests and landscapes we crossed earlier in our journey.

But the return journey feels different.

With the achievement of reaching the glacier behind us, there is time to slow down and appreciate the details—the sound of the river, the forests, the mountain air, and the simple beauty of Himalayan life.

• Descend through beautiful Himalayan forests

Khati Village Departure

Drive: ~190–200 km | 8–10 hrs
Day Theme: Leave the Kumaon Himalayas, but carry the mountains with you.

After breakfast, we begin our journey back towards Kathgodam.

The mountain roads slowly take us away from the remote valleys and villages of Kumaon. As the Himalayan peaks disappear behind us, the memories of the Pindari Glacier journey remain.

You return home carrying memories of:

• Traditional Kumaoni villages
• The beautiful Pindar River
• Dense Himalayan forests
• Dwali and Phurkiya
• The magnificent Pindari Glacier
• The silence and grandeur of the high Himalayas

– Accommodation: Guest House/ Camp.

– Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea & Snacks, Soup, Sweet, Egg.

-Trek equipments (Sleeping bag, Oxygen meter, Oxygen Cylinder, mattress, Kitchen,

 Tent, Toilet Tent, Crampon, Utensils)

– All necessary permits and entry fees.

– First aid medical kits.

-Fees of Guide, Cook and Support staff, who are very well familiar with local conditions, routes and mythological stories which are related to this whole trek.

Exclusion

– Any kind of personal expenses.

– We can arrange transportation with extra charge.

– Mules or porter to carry personal luggage of team. If anyone not able to carry his luggage, charges are extra Rs. 500/- per bag/day.
